Business Rates will be changing on 1 April 2017. It has been seven years since all non-domestic properties in Scotland were nationally revalued. The 2017 Revaluation will be based upon rental levels at 1 April 2015 and will form the basis of your business rates liability for at least the next five years.

The Rates Appeal system can be a complex and daunting process, whether that be technical valuations or case law requiring to be interpreted.

However, rest assured, our experienced team of Chartered Surveyors can advise on all aspects of business rates; from looking at the impact of new rates on your liability to challenging the assessment via the appeal system. We can also advise on additional appeal and relief opportunities to minimise your liability over the next five years.

In respect of costs, we will carry out the Appeal on your behalf on a predominantly success related basis.

It can't be stressed highly enough that failure to submit an appeal by 30 September 2017 will lead to a loss of the right to challenge the new assessment, potentially resulting in excessive rates bills until 2022 at the earliest.
